Two charts together

Two charts, read together.

A BaZi synastry reading puts two birth charts side by side and scans the eight characters of one against the eight characters of the other. What comes out is a list of ties — which of your pillars meets which of theirs, and under what relation — and one named loop the two of you keep returning to. It does not produce a compatibility score.

The number you were hoping for

Most places that read two charts together will hand you a percentage. Eighty-seven, say, with a line about how rare that is. It is the easiest thing in the world to build: the engine already counts the ties, and going from a count to a total is one line of code.

We ran the counts. Six thousand pairs, one chart held fixed against birth dates sampled evenly across 1980 to 2004: the fewest ties in any pair was one, the most was seventeen, the median was nine. Not one pair came back empty. Eight characters against eight characters — landing on something is the normal case, not a sign.

Which means "the two of you have a clash" is a sentence with nothing in it. Everyone has one. A score built on the count is measuring how many times a lookup table fired, and dressing it up as how well two people get along.

What is worth reading instead

Not whether there are ties, but which ones, and where they land. A clash between your day branch and theirs sits in the seat traditionally read as the partner seat; the same clash between two year branches sits somewhere else entirely and means something else. The reading gives you the table: every tie, both ends named, no weighting invented on top.

On top of the table sits one loop. Not three, not a list — one named pattern the two of you fall into, traced back to the specific ties it comes from. Something like: you press for an answer, they go quiet or give a correct one with no warmth in it, you read that as being shut out, they read it as being cornered. The loop has no starting point, and the reading says so, because whoever moves first is a choice and not a fact about the charts.

The loop is the only part of this that has ever made it into an actual conversation between two people. A percentage gets quoted once. A named pattern gets said out loud in the middle of an argument — we are in that thing again — and saying it is most of the way out of it.

Where this stops

The other person is not here. They did not sit down for this, and they cannot correct anything said about them, so nothing here passes judgement on them as a person — no character verdict, no advice about whether to keep them. What is described is what runs between two charts, which is a different object from either of the people.

It also does not forecast the relationship. Nothing here says whether you stay together, when you marry, or how it ends. Those are the questions people most want answered, and they are exactly the ones eight characters cannot answer. If you would rather the other person spoke for themselves, there is a link you can send them so they fill in their own birth details.

Reading two charts together needs your own chart first — the birth details saved on your account, with a known hour on both sides. Cast yours, and the second person comes after.

Common questions

What is BaZi synastry?

Synastry in BaZi puts two birth charts side by side and scans the eight characters of one against the eight characters of the other, using the same clash, combination and harm tables used within a single chart. What comes out is a list of ties: which pillar of yours meets which pillar of theirs, and under what relation.

Does a BaZi synastry reading give a compatibility score?

Not here. A sample of 6,000 pairs found between 1 and 17 cross-chart relations per pair, with a median of 9 and not a single pair at zero. Since everyone has roughly nine, the count carries no information, and any score built on it measures noise. What matters is which ties, on which seats.

Does the other person need to agree?

They are not in the room and cannot answer for themselves, so the reading never passes judgement on them as a person. It describes what runs between two charts. You can also send them a link so they enter their own birth details themselves, rather than you entering them on their behalf.
